How to sing better

Most people can sing better than they think. The gap is usually technique, not talent — and technique is learnable.

Tips

  1. Breathe low and wide. Place a hand on your ribs and feel them expand sideways on the inhale, not just your chest lifting.
  2. Warm up before you push. Lip trills, humming, and gentle sirens prep your cords for harder work.
  3. Record yourself weekly. You hear yourself differently inside your head than a microphone does.
  4. Practice pitch before range. Nailing the center of each note matters more than hitting the highest note.
  5. Stop when it hurts. Hoarseness after singing means something is wrong — rest and reset before continuing.
When to get a coach.

A good coach catches habits you can't hear yourself. One lesson often saves months of guessing.
