How to sing with vibrato

Vibrato is a reflex, not a decoration you paste on. It shows up when breath and tone are balanced.

Tips

  1. Don't force it. Pulsing your diaphragm manually creates fake vibrato — real vibrato emerges from relaxed support.
  2. Sing long tones on "ah" or "oo" at medium volume. Hold steady breath and wait — vibrato often appears after a few seconds.
  3. If vibrato is too wide, increase breath support. Wobble usually means insufficient steady air pressure.
  4. If you have no vibrato, check for throat tension. A free larynx is prerequisite for natural pulse.
  5. Classical and pop vibrato differ in speed and width — study singers in your genre.
When to get a coach.

Vibrato issues are almost always support issues. A coach diagnoses which in one session.
